Senior Center News February 2014 What’s Happening!
Senior Center News February 2014-Despite the howling winds and frigid temperatures, our seniors have not let the weather bother them at all as they continue to take advantage of the programs we offer. Strength Training has been very popular attracting as many as 19 people.
Some very energetic participants are coming to the center from 8 to 9 a.m. on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday doing Jazzercize with Valerie Chornyak or using the great equipment we have available when Val isn’t here.
We have a new nursing service, Americare, who provide a complete health consultation for seniors on the 4th Thursday of the month. We received good reviews from those who came to the “60 plus Clinic” for January. Call 419-355-1084 and ask for Deb to schedule an appointment for February. I wish to express my gratitude to all the wonderful people who have helped out in order to make things roll along smoothly at the Center.
Health program to benefit seniors in 2014- For 2014, AmeriCare Home Health of Fremont and Ottawa County Commissioners have collaborated to provide beneficial health assessment and education services under a program known as the 60 Plus Program. Funded through a grant program administered by the Ottawa County Senior Resource Department, the services are offered free of cost to all Ottawa County seniors aged sixty years and older, including residents of the Bass Islands.
The 60 Plus Program features monthly assessment clinics run by registered nurses at seven designated sites where seniors can get health assessments that include blood pressure checks, weight measurements; blood tests for anemia, blood sugar and cholesterol; health education including medication and nutrition counseling, and referrals to private physicians, if needed.
The schedule for Put-in-Bayy is the fourth Thursday of the month at the Put-in-Bay Senior Center. Each month there is a topic
of discussion in the Education Series. February’s topic is “Stroke Awareness.” There are no special sign-in or enrollment requirements to receive services under this program. For more details, or to make an appointment, please call (866) 551 8187.
