Put-in-Bay School News April 2017 What’s Happening At Put-in-Bay School

Spring is upon us, and our Put-in-Bay School students are anxious to walk or ride their bikes to school again. Please drive slowly and follow our drop-off/pick-up procedures to ensure the safety of our children. We would like for parents to please drop off/pick-up along Catawba Ave. instead of occupying a parking space. Parking spaces are limited, and we would like to reserve as many spaces as possible for patrons visiting the Put-in-Bay library.

The Board of Education and staff would like to thank everyone in our community who volunteered their time or contributed to various school events or activities this past year. Some of those events or activities included:

• Harvest Dinner
• Academic Challenge / Quiz Bowl
• Science Olympiad and Science Fair
• School Fund Raisers
• Put-in-Bay School High School Prom
• 100 Days of Put-in-Bay School

Our school could not function without the support of so many individuals. Our sincere thanks will be expressed again next month when we send thank you cards to everyone who volunteered or contributed. Thank you to the Put-in-Bay Island community! The winners from the 2017 Put-in-Bay High School science fair attended the Ohio Junior Science and Humanities Symposium at Bowling Green State University. Sophia Schroeder, Tatyana Kowalski, and Alexandra Knauer competed against Ohio’s best and brightest scientific minds and did a fantastic job.

These same three students also attended last year and have shown considerable growth. In other science news, four students will travel to the ODNR Student Wildlife Symposium at Deer Creek State Park this month. Our Limnology students applied in December and were selected to present projects pertaining to wildlife in Ohio. Congratulations and good luck to Kaylyn Goebel, Tatyana Kowalski, Sophia Schroeder, and Mari Kate Polston!

Put-in-Bay School Archery advisor, Ms. Susan Harrington, and the Put-in-Bay archery School team participated in the State Archery Tournament on Saturday, March 18. The following were our top scorers: 1st- Alexandra Knauer (261); 2nd – Sophia Schroeder (258); 3rd –Kate Byrnes (257); 4th – Blake Booker (255); and 5th – Lilian Frederick (248). Note: In archery, 300 is a perfect score; a bull’s eye on every shot. Great job, archery team!

Congratulations to senior Kaylyn Goebel on her academic accomplishments. She will represent Put-in-Bay School at the annual Ottawa County Top Ten Banquet on April 26. Kaylyn plans to attend The Ohio State University in the fall. She is the daughter of Mike and Gina Goebel. Senior student Tyler King will represent Put-in-Bay School at the annual Ottawa County “Nine-to-Five Breakfast” on May 5. Tyler was chosen for his academic accomplishments and leadership this past school year. Tyler is the grandson of Pat and Theresa Finney. Congratulations Tyler!

We will have an abbreviated Spring Break this year with no school on Thursday, April 13, thru Monday, April 17. Next year’s school calendar has been adopted and will be sent home next month. When making plans for family vacations and appointments, please schedule them during our scheduled breaks.
