Put-in-Bay Nature Walk
There will be a Photography Workshop and Nature Walk on July 29th at 6 p.m. at the Scheeff East Point Park on South Bass Island. Here’s the opportunity to photograph birds, snakes, plants, landscapes, and more and learn more about the flora and fauna of the islands while on a nature walk.
No experience or professional equipment is needed. All ages and abilities are welcome, so please bring your camera or cell phones (those with picture-taking capabilities). The workshop and nature walk will be led by Chloe Nostrant, the Lake Erie Island Chapter – Black Swamp Conservancy AmeriCorps intern and professional photographer.
Chloe has been visiting her grandparents in Middle Bass since she was barely two years old and has always seen the area as an extraordinary and wonderful place. She moved from Perrysburg, OH, to Bozeman, Montana, eight years ago. While in Montana, she discovered a passion for the outdoors and photography.
She has always been an avid hunter and fisherwoman but has immersed herself in any outdoor activity and project she could. She coaches skiing in the winter, has packed mules in an elk hunting camp, helped with prescribed wildland fires, assisted with research on Arctic Grayling, explored the Yellowstone area on horseback, foot, and boat, and most recently, helped plant over 70,000 poplar trees as part of a wastewater filtration and treatment project. She graduated from high school one year ago and will attend Montana State University this fall for Environmental Studies, focusing on soils and water.
She recently thanks to help from some incredibly kind islanders and friends, she recently raised enough money to buy underwater housing for her camera equipment so she can photograph and film the aquatic water snakes. When she is not working, you can find her fly fishing for panfish and bass in the Put-in-Bay marinas or hiding in tall grass and stalking wildlife to get “the shot.” She is excited to be working on the islands this summer and is really looking forward to getting to know all of the people, wildlife, and landscape Lake Erie and the islands have to offer.
