Put-in-Bay Arbor Day Observation to be observed on April 28th in DeRivera Park.

Once again, Put-in-Bay, Ohio, has been named a Tree City United States of America by the Arbor Day Foundation in honor of its commitment to the goals and principles of the Arbor Day Foundation.

Put-in-Bay Arbor Day achieved Tree City USA recognition by meeting the program’s four requirements: a tree board, a tree-care ordinance, an annual community forestry budget, and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation. Guests and residents who Visit Put-in-Bay are invited to attend the Put-in-Bay Arbor Day Celebration that will take place on Friday, April 28, 2017. The Council of the Village of Put-in-Bay has allocated funds in the annual operating budget for Arbor Day.

On Put-in-Bay Arbor Day this year, a bur oak tree will be planted on the waterfront near the docks at DeRivera Park in downtown Put-in-Bay at 4:00 PM. Bur oak is a hardy choice to be planted along the island’s rocky shoreline. The bur oak will replace a maple tree that died at this location and was damaged in a storm. See why Put-in-Bay was named a tree city!

The Arbor Day Foundation is a million-member nonprofit conservation and education organization whose mission is to inspire people to plant, nurture and celebrate trees. The Village of Put-in-Bay Tree Commission members are Lisa Brohl, Kelly Faris, and Kendra Koehler. Put-in-Bay Hotels and Resorts are expected to be sold out for this event, and reservations are suggested to be made early by calling the island’s central reservation center at 888-742-7829.
