The History Of The Jet Express

The Jet Express Ferry is a high-speed ferry service that departs from Port Clinton and Sandusky, Ohio, providing speedy and convenient transportation to several popular Lake Erie destinations. With a travel time of as little as 25 minutes for the 12-mile trip between Port Clinton and Put-in-Bay, the Jet Express is one of the fastest ferries on the lake.

The company was founded in 1988 as the Put-in-Bay Boat Line Co. “The Jet Express” by four partners, and today, the majority owner and President is Todd Blumensaadt. The company started with a brand new 3 million water-jet powered catamaran, the Jet Express, and soon added the Jet Express II in 1992, Jet Express III in 2002, and Jet Express IV in 2009.

All four of the Jet Express vessels were built by the Gladdin-Hearn Shipbuilding Company in Somerset, Massachusetts.

The Jet Express service has expanded from its original Port Clinton to Put-in-Bay route to include Sandusky (2005) and Lorain (2009) as regular ports of call, with service to Kelley’s Island (2006), Put-in-Bay, and Cedar Point (2016).

The company also offers Excursion Adventure Cruises, which are theme-based and visit various US and Canadian ports throughout Lake Erie and its tributaries.

Overall, the Jet Express fleet provides a reliable and efficient transportation option for those seeking to explore the Lake Erie region. With its modern vessels and expanded route offerings, the Jet Express is a top choice for travelers looking to experience the beauty and excitement of this popular destination.

There is ample parking available near the ticket booth. One interesting feature of the experience is the display of a few drive engines that are quite large and powerful. The departure from the port is slow, with loud air horns tooting. Once they leave the wake zone, the boat picks up speed, and the ride becomes exhilarating. It feels like riding in a big old Cadillac - very enjoyable. However, the return trip to the mainland can be a bit scary as it's dark with no lights. But, the staff use radar to detect obstacles and ensure safety. We eventually relaxed and enjoyed the ride, and in about 15-20 minutes, we were back on the mainland. Overall, it was a fun experience. We liked the Jet Express SChedule allowed us to return late.

I highly recommend taking the Jet Express Schedule to Put-in-Bay or any of the Lake Erie islands! This was my second time using their service and I loved it! It's definitely the quickest way to get to the island. The staff on board the boat are all super friendly and nice. A special shoutout to Nicole D. for doing a great job promoting the Jet and providing an A+ experience. Well done! Overall, I had a great experience on the boat and would definitely take it again!

We had an amazing time on our trip to and from Kelley Island over the holiday weekend. Although the ride out was a bit slow due to other boat traffic, the ride back was smooth and fast. While the top deck only had a few shaded seats, the lower deck was air-conditioned with comfortable seating, a restroom, and a view of the water spray. We noticed that many of their trips were fully booked due to the holiday weekend, and we overheard some angry passengers verbally abusing the ticket staff on Kelley's Island because they couldn't get back until after 11 pm due to some ferry problem earlier. Although we weren't sure what had happened, we were grateful to have our tickets and the jet Express Schedule was being followed. One thing to note is that they only check your ticket when you get off the ferry, so it's unclear how they would know if someone didn't have one.

On August 22nd, my companions and I took the Jet Express from Port Clinton to Put-in-Bay. Despite running late, we were allowed to board the boat without any issues. The ride was enjoyable, not too fast or slow, and lasted about 30 knots. I was pleased to find out that Jet Express Schedule offers package deals with local businesses on the island. We were able to store our packages until we returned from our trip. This saved us the hassle of carrying heavy items all day. The return trip was breathtaking, with the sunset creating a beautiful backdrop. However, it was a bit windy and cold for my wife, who opted to stay below deck. I rode on the top deck and loved it. While the Miller Ferry may be cheaper, I have no complaints about the Jet Express. It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

After browsing online, we decided to visit Kelley's Island and Put-in-Bay using the Island Hopping option. The Jet Express Schedule allowed us to choose the times for departure from Sandusky to Kelley's, Kelley's to Put-in-Bay, and Put-in-Bay back to Sandusky. We made a stop at Cedar Point to pick up and drop off passengers on both legs of the trip. Tickets are purchased at the dock, so it's best to plan your schedule beforehand to avoid long lines. The ticket sellers are very helpful in guiding you through the process. Only Island Hopping tickets require specific times. The ride can be a bit bumpy, but we didn't experience any seasickness. We sat inside and enjoyed the comfortable booth-type tables and theater-style seating. We brought snacks with us and there's a restroom on board, but it can be challenging to move around while the ferry is in motion. The staff is friendly and happy to answer any questions you may have. Overall, it was a fun trip!

Our extended family, with ages ranging from 5-70, had a fantastic time taking the Jet Express Schedule from Port Clinton to South Bass Island's Put-in-Bay. We saved some money by purchasing tickets online and enjoyed the 30-minute scenic ride from the top deck. Upon arrival, we rented golf carts at the pier, where there were plenty of rental options to choose from, and even got a 10% discount with our Jet Express tickets. Put-in-Bay was excellent, and we highly recommend the trip to anyone vacationing in Lake Erie. Rent a golf cart or bike to explore all that the island has to offer. There is so much to see and experience!

If you're planning to take the Jet Express to Kelley's Island or Put-in-Bay, make sure to purchase your tickets online in advance. We learned this the hard way when we arrived at the Cedar Point stop without tickets and discovered that it was not a full-service location. However, the staff at the Jet Express was exceptional and helped us out once we arrived at Kelley's Island. We were interested in getting the Island Hopping pass that's included in the Cedar Point to Put-in-Bay round trip, even though we were starting at Kelley's Island. The clerk went above and beyond by contacting her supervisor and finding a solution in the Jet Express Schedule that worked for us. We ended up paying the adult round-trip fare to Put-in-Bay at Kelley's Island. It was an awesome start to our island trip! If you're staying at Cedar Point, I highly recommend using the convenient Jet Express service from the marina.

The parking area at this transportation hub is ideal for the large number of travelers headed to Kelley's Island and Put-in-Bay. Although I parked in the front/back section for an easy exit, the seagulls roosting overhead made it difficult to see through the windshield. The staff was courteous and helpful, efficiently boarding and assisting passengers upon arrival. Seating options included both an open-air top deck and a sheltered interior to avoid the wind. During the trip, there was informative commentary about other islands in the lake, which was a nice touch. Tickets can be purchased in advance, not just on the day of travel. The Jet Express Schedule offers late-night service. For the first 30 minutes, parking is free if someone is picking you up or dropping you off. A waiting area and a small bar are available on-site as well.

When we were in Port Clinton, we decided to take a day trip to Put-in-Bay. We were advised to purchase tickets in person, especially if we had a AAA card. It's best to arrive at least 20 minutes before the ferry boarding time. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The ferry company has a large paid parking lot across the road from the boarding station. There are restrooms available both inside the ferry and near the boarding station. When purchasing our tickets, we were able to grab a map of Put-in-Bay. The ferry runs at regular intervals, (Be sure to check the Jet Express Schedule) and on public holidays they also have additional shuttles. We visited on Labor Day (September 7th) and were pleasantly surprised that it wasn't very crowded. The ferry has a capacity of about 372 people.

The trip to Put-in-Bay was quick and enjoyable. The boats have three levels, including inside, inside/out, and outside seating. Tickets for one-way, round-trip, or inter-island travel can be purchased. We planned to visit both Put In Bay and Kellys Island on different days, but we found out at the ticket counter that the inter-island option only works for same-day travel or if you are staying overnight on PIB. The employee was friendly and informed us of another ferry service that would be cheaper and direct to KI. We bought our PIB tickets and received vouchers because we were unsure about our return time, which was nice because the Jet Express Schedule runs later. The boat was clean, and the crew seemed pleasant. We spent our time relaxing and watching the water. The ferry docked in downtown Put IN Bay, which provided easy access to golf cart rentals, restaurants, and shops. Prices for all ferry services are pretty high, but this may be due to competition. We stayed nearby and walked over, so we didn't use the parking facility. Overall, we had a good experience and would use this service again.
