Senior Center News August 2018 From Put-in-Bay
Wow, can you believe it’s August already … where does the time go? In Senior News August 2018, we enjoyed a fun-filled day on the mainland for Lunch & Shopping, learned about Medicare changes through an Educational Seminar, and finally, we started our six-week-long Watercolor & Acrylic Painting, Classes.

Org for any last-minute Put-in-Bay Senior News events not planned far enough to get them on the calendar in time for this publication!
We have the following special events & programs planned for August:
Put-in-Bay Barber Shop Quartets will perform at the Perry Victory and Internation Peace Memorial. Bring a chair and enjoy the show! The annual Star Gazing Cruise is always a fun and educational experience in August!
On Friday, August 10th, at 10 a.m. (during our Coffee Social), we are having the ten-year reunion for the Put-in-Bay quilters who contributed to the 2008 quilt made for the Historical Society Auction. The quilt was purchased by Bonnie Lukcso, who has since spent many hours researching the background and quilters involved in making the individual pieces of the quilt. She will be here to talk about the quilt story and will have a photo album and the quilt itself for people to enjoy. Please join us for this unique program!
On Tuesday, August 21st, at 9 a.m., we will be traveling to Port Clinton for a guided tour of the Liberty Aviation Museum and lunch at the Tin Goose Diner … Don’t miss out on this fun mainland trip!
Finally, on Tuesdays, August 7th, 14th, and 21st, from 1 to 3 p.m., our Celeste Mycoskie will continue teaching her watercolor and acrylic painting classes! (The cost/class is $9, but if you have your supplies, it’s $5/class). Remember, on days when the temperature is 90+ degrees, the Senior Center will be open to resident seniors if they need a break from the heat.
Our Senior Lunches are always delicious and fun! This year, the summer schedule is only on Thursdays at noon. Please make your reservation by signing up at the Senior Center or calling the center at (419) 285-5501. The cut-off time for reservations is noon on Wednesday for Thursday’s lunch.
In other Senior News August 2018, the Put-in-Bay EMS continues to take Blood Pressure every Monday at 10 a.m. this is an outstanding service they provide, so feel free to get yours checked. The “60+ Clinic” is scheduled for Thursday, August 23rd. The Ottawa County Health Dept puts this free health clinic on for those 60 and older. If you’d like to take advantage of this free program, please call (419) 734-6800 to make your appointment.
A shout-out goes to the Put-in-Bay Hotels for allowing us to use their pool for our Aquamotion classes! All our regularly scheduled weekly activities continue and our seniors have discovered the many health benefits, both mental and physical, that regular exercise and socializing provide. Please join us anytime and discover what wonderful people walk through these doors!
