Island School News Put-in-Bay May 2016
It is hard to believe we are preparing for the end of another school year. Our high school students enjoyed their Prom on April 30. The Spring Concert is scheduled for Tuesday, May 17, at 7 p.m. and the annual Awards Day is set for Thursday, May 19. These events are signs that we are closing in on another school year.
Completing the school year will be Graduation on Friday, June 3, at 7 p.m. at the Perry Monument. Addressing this year’s graduating class will be Tyrus Burgess. Tyrus is the son of island residents Ty and Jeanne Burgess and is a 1990 graduate of Put-in-Bay School. Upon high school graduation, he attended Miami University and received a Bachelor of Philosophy. He continued at Emerson College for graduate school, earning his Master of Arts in Marketing and Communications.
He currently resides in New York and works at SSCG Media as a Digital Media Operations department supervisor. Before that, Tyrus worked in advertising and marketing for the New York Times and helped launch their Chinese website. He is elated to return to the island and speak to the Put-in-Bay class of 2016 on the morning of Friday, May 20. Letters will be sent home to explain the details.
For students involved in extra-curricular activities, Dr. Brett Kuns will once again be offering free medical examinations. The date for the physical exams is Thursday, May 12. A schedule and forms will be sent home before this date for parents to complete. PLEASE SEND IN COMPLETED EXAM FORMS BEFORE MAY 12. Congratulations to junior Carter Pugh for being named “Student of the Nine Weeks” at EHOVE Career Center. Carter is the son of Scott and Kim Pugh.

The week of May 2 is Staff Appreciation Week. Our teachers and support staff do a fantastic job, and we want to thank them for their hard work and dedication. We are blessed to have such talented professionals in our school system. The next time you see one of them, maybe say, “Thank you.” On Friday, May 27, the school will be dismissed for Memorial Day weekend at noon.
