What’s So Special About the 3rd Annual Put-in-Bay Music Festival?
First, music festivals of this caliber usually charges admission. However, the organizers of this Put-in-Bay outdoor concert are committed to keeping it free! Further, this is an event you can share with your entire family, from the youngest to the oldest, and everyone is guaranteed to have fun with the eclectic mix of performances. Plus, unless you’re one of the lucky few who live in the Put-in-Bay village’s island community, you’ll get to take a very pleasurable scenic ferry ride on your way to this unique Put-in-Bay concert. It’s the combination of the music and the venue that make this concert seem almost magical.
Enjoy the Live Music of Six Great Bands On the Main Stage
– School of Rock from Farmington, Michigan
Talented beyond their years, these musical youngsters will amaze you with just how good they are. Come out and show them your support. See how well the unique performance-based musical training at the School of Rock works. In fact, they don’t just teach kids using this method, they teach adults too, and it’s evidently all the rage for birthday parties.
– Cold Shot from Detroit Michigan
The Cold Shot band is well known for their musical tributes to the Blues Hall of Famer and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Stevie Ray Vaughan, whose very successful musical career was cut short by a plane crash. It’s a comfort that his style of musical lives on through Cold Shot. If you like old-school blues guitar with a little “Jimi Hendrix” rock-n-roll blended in, you’re in for a treat.
– Fuel on Fire from Nashville Tennessee
Fuel on Fire will heat things up at the Put-in-Bay Music Festival with its award-winning music. These four brothers, who hail from a large family with many musical genes in their DNA, grew up playing in the foggy mist of the Niagara Falls region. The band currently consists of four younger brothers (Ben, Edward, Joe, and Kurt Doerfel), but their older siblings and parents have played along with them too.
They play everything from traditional bluegrass to their own remakes of Led Zeppelin hits and crowd favorites by The Beatles. With this diversity of musical genres in their repertoire, it will be interesting to see what they have in store for Put-in-Bay Music Festival attendees.
– Few Miles South from Tennessee
The Few Mile South band named their first album “California I Aint.” That should give you a big clue about the heart and soul of their music, right in line with the “Golden Age” of country music. This country music band writes songs and has solid musical influences from southern rock and southern blues. They won an award in 2017 for the Best International Music Video, but you can see them up close and in person at the Put-in-Bay Music Festival.
– Kris Lager Band from Arkansas
The Kris Lager Band is known for their feel-good funky style of music, so be prepared to be put in a great mood and do a lot of smiling when this band takes the stage. Over the years, Kris Lager’s philosophy toward musical performance has evolved, and he hit his stride when he found a way to spread “peace and tolerance through song and dance” to his audience. There couldn’t be a better fit for the Put-in-Bay Music Festival and its “peace through music” theme.
– Bob Gatewood and the Calabash band from Cleveland Ohio
An Ohio musical legend, Bob Gatewood, and his band, Calabash, will bring the Put-in-Bay Music Festival, crowd to the home in his heart. Let your troubles disappear as they play the now infamous “Friends of the Bay” sing-along song and many other island favorites. As the story goes, Bob Gatewood wrote this hit song when he was just a kid, and it has grown in popularity every time he performs it. In 2014, the Put-in-Bay Village Council voted to make “Friends of the Bay” the official song of Put-in-Bay. You can check out the music in the YouTube video below. Still, the song is even better experienced live with an appreciative crowd on the shores of the Put-in-Bay’s crystal blue waters, the inspiration for the music!
Have You Ever Wanted To Learn To Play the Ukulele?
Here’s your chance! One of the many fun events on the second stage of the Put-in-Bay Music Festival will be the ukulele workshops with none other than Put-in-Bay’s own Dick McCarthy. These workshops will take place from 1:00 to 3:00 pm, with a ukulele performance to follow at 3:15 pm. There’s something magical about ukuleles…. they always seem to lift everyone’s spirits and bring people closer together. Have fun!
Show Your Licks At the Guitar Hero Tent
If you’re a guitar player or love to watch guitar players strut their stuff, check out this fun event. This was a hit at last year’s Put-in-Bay Music Festival and will be again this year.
What To Do If You Get Hungry or Thirsty?
When you get hungry at the Put-in-Bay Music Festival, you can grab a bite from one of Rusty’s Road Trip Food Trucks. If you’re unfamiliar, this is one of the region’s local favorites. Don’t miss the Lake Erie yellow perch fried in peanut oil and served with homemade tartar sauce. The kids might prefer the rich and gooey mac and cheese.
Rosie’s Rolling Chef will also be on hand serving up her famous pizza and Italian food. If it’s cool, crisp out that day, look for Rosie’s lobster bisque to warm you up. It’s divine! Of course, the Put-in-Bay Music Festival wouldn’t be the same without some Hot Mama Bread.
The Put-in-Bay Music Festival Will Be a Weekend Full of Possibilities
You’ll feel the stress melt away on your ride over to Miller’s Ferry. Enjoy the wildlife of Lake Erie and the excellent views of South Bass Island Lighthouse as you are transported to “The Key West of the North.” Let loose at the music festival and then allow you and your group to be pampered at the Put-in-Bay Resort or Put-in-Bay Villas. You work hard — you deserve it!
On Friday night the sun won’t set until after 9:00 om on this long summer day so rent a golf cart from Put-in-Bay Golf Carts and tool around South Bass Island in style. If you’re looking for fun things to do in Put-in-Bay on Saturday, you’ll find all the information you need on the Offical Put-in-Bay site.
